About

I turn big goals into clear steps, and then make them happen.

I'm Chelsey Walker, a Canadian marketing and communications lead with 10 years of experience across agencies, in-house teams and my own studio.

My story

Communications first. Then everything it takes to deliver.

I trained in public relations and professional communication, and started my career in-house at Food and Beverage Ontario, where I went from Communications Coordinator to leading social media and creative for a provincial careers program.

In 2019 I started my own studio, now CW Comms & Designs, helping small businesses, entrepreneurs and personal brands with strategy, brands, websites and launches. One of those clients was Capital Content, an Ottawa content agency. I led its rebrand in 2023, and in 2024 it hired me as Creative Marketing Director. As second in command to the CEO, I built the agency's systems, led its team, ran a content program for 12 hotels and wrote the proposals that won new business. I continue with them today as a freelance partner.

I'm also a co-founder of Ocean Ops, an AI assistant for ocean tourism operators, where I lead research, user experience, AI setup and client relationships. It keeps me hands-on with the tools I bring to clients.

What ties it together is that I'm a doer. Strategy and planning matter, and I do them well, but I don't let a project stall there. I turn the plan into a list, start checking it off and keep going until there are results you can see.

For hiring managers

A marketing lead who plans it, then gets it done.

I'm open to senior marketing and communications roles in Canada, remote or hybrid, alongside my fractional work.

Roles I'm a fit for

  • Marketing Director or Head of Marketing
  • Marketing Manager, especially for a lean team
  • Communications Manager or Director
  • Creative or Brand Director

How I get things done

  • Every plan becomes a task list with owners and dates
  • Quick wins in the first weeks while the bigger plan takes shape
  • Progress you can see every week, not just in a monthly meeting
  • I do the work myself: copy, design, websites, campaigns
  • I finish what I start, and report on what it changed

What I bring

  • A bias for action: I turn plans into task lists and get them done
  • 10 years across agency, in-house and my own studio
  • Second in command at an agency: team leadership, operations and proposals
  • Strategy and execution in one person: plans, copy, design, websites
  • Web app and UX design: I designed the Ocean Ops booking and scheduling app
  • Systems that make teams faster, including setting people up with AI that handles their day-to-day work
  • A BA in Professional Communication and a PR diploma

My first 90 days

  1. Days 1–30

    Listen and learn

Meet the team and key customers, audit the brand, channels and data, and turn what I find into a prioritized to-do list. The first quick wins ship this month.

  2. Days 31–60

    Plan and fix the foundations

Agree the marketing plan and break it into tasks with owners and dates. Set up simple reporting and clear out what slows the team down.

  3. Days 61–90

    Launch and measure

Launch the first campaigns from the plan, report on what moved, and hand over a working rhythm and the next quarter's list.

Let's see if we're a fit.

Hiring for a marketing role, or looking for a fractional lead? I'd love to hear what you're working on.
